Introduction to Agni Yoga

A good way to get to know Agni Yoga is to set it beside the other yogas. The Indian tradition describes yogas that lead a person to truth by different paths: Karma Yoga, the path of action and service; Raja Yoga, the path of control of the mind; Jnana Yoga, the path of knowledge and discrimination; and Bhakti Yoga, the path of love and devotion.

Helena Roerich describes Agni Yoga as a fiery synthesis of these paths. Agni Yoga does not emphasize withdrawal from the world, bodily disciplines or asceticism; its field of work is daily life itself. Thought is an energy, and every thought has an effect both on the thinker and on his surroundings. For this reason responsibility for one's thoughts, attention and self-discipline stand at the center of the teaching.

The teaching is given in fourteen books. The series begins with Leaves of Morya's Garden I (The Call), published in 1924. For those who wish to begin, the first three books of the series offer a good introduction; Turkish translations of all three are among our publications.

Agni Yoga

Agni Yoga is a teaching introduced to the West in the 1920s by Nicholas and Helena Roerich. Its name means "the path of union with the sacred fire" in Sanskrit. Although its roots reach back to ancient Indian philosophy, it is in essence a way of life practiced in daily life, founded on conscious thought, love, creativity and spiritual energy.
